San Diego Infusion Center provides comprehensive, cost-effective infusion therapies in an outpatient setting. We work closely with referring providers, patients, insurance plans, and specialty pharmacies to support a smooth referral and infusion experience.

We are looking for a Medical Assistant / Front Office team member who is professional, organized, and experienced with insurance authorization requests.

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant / Front Office Authorization Specialist supports patient scheduling, referral intake, insurance verification, prior authorization requests, patient communication, and front office operations. This role is ideal for someone who understands the importance of accurate information, timely follow-up, and excellent customer service.

Required Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant experience or front office medical experience.
  • Experience with insurance authorization requests.
  • Strong computer, phone, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with patients, providers, insurance plans, and specialty pharmacies.
  • Excellent organization and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy clinical office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with infusion, biologics, specialty medications, or prior authorization workflows.
  • Medical Assistant Certification
  • Experience with insurance verification and benefits investigation.
  • Familiarity with referrals, chart preparation, scheduling, and EMR systems.
  • Tebra EMR experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and provide professional front office support.
  • Answer phones, return calls, and communicate with patients and referring offices.
  • Receive and process referrals for infusion services.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
  • Submit, track, and follow up on authorization requests.
  • Communicate authorization status to patients, providers, and internal staff.
  • Schedule patients once referrals, orders, authorizations, and benefits are complete.
  • Assist with chart preparation and required patient documents.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR.
  • Help ensure a smooth referral-to-infusion process.
  • Support the clinical team with administrative and patient-flow needs.

Ideal Candidate

You are detail-oriented, patient, friendly, and persistent. You understand that authorizations require follow-up and accuracy. You are comfortable calling insurance plans, checking portals, communicating with provider offices, and keeping patients informed.
