Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Medical Assistant specializing in Gastroenterology to join our dynamic healthcare team. Duties
- Assist with patient intake by collecting comprehensive medical histories and documenting symptoms related to gastrointestinal conditions
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration to monitor patient status accurately
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, including endoscopies or other diagnostic tests
- Support physicians during procedures by handing instruments, managing supplies, and ensuring sterile techniques are maintained
- Operate Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems efficiently to document patient encounters, test results, and treatment plans
- Administer medications as directed by physicians, including injections or oral medications following proper protocols
- Conduct basic X-ray procedures and assist with other diagnostic imaging as needed within the clinic setting
- Perform ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases) for accurate billing and record-keeping purposes
- Assist with patient education on gastrointestinal health, medication usage, and lifestyle modifications
- Maintain clinical cleanliness, sterilization standards, and inventory of medical supplies to ensure a safe environment
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant in outpatient settings, preferably within gastroenterology or related specialties such as internal medicine or dermatology
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to gastrointestinal health and procedures
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications such as EHR systems proficiency are highly desirable
- Experience working in hospital medicine environments or Level I/II trauma centers is a plus; familiarity with emergency medicine protocols is beneficial
- Strong patient service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately across diverse populations including geriatrics and pediatric patients (PICU experience is advantageous)
- Ability to perform intake assessments, vital signs collection, medication administration, and ICD coding accurately
- Prior hospital experience involving inpatient care or medical-surgical units enhances your candidacy; clinic experience is also valued
- Knowledge of X-ray procedures and emergency medicine practices within outpatient or inpatient settings is preferred
- Familiarity with hospital experience requirements such as Level I Trauma Center standards or Geriatrics care is advantageous
