PURPOSE: To support the delivery of medical services through the direct provision of medical care by performing basic nursing and medical and administrative tasks. The MA II is a job title given to all unlicensed, certified staff who maintain certification via their examination center’s required CEUs. MA staff who do not have national certification and were employed by CVHS prior to October 2019, must maintain their certification via approved National Medical Assistant continuing education requirements (ex: AAMA on-line learning modules) to be considered an MA II. MA’s hired after October 1, 2019 must have national certification and maintain their certification requirements to be hired as an MA II.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs tasks pertinent to age of patient (infancy to geriatric)

Maintains accurate inventory of medical supplies; assists in the selection of division equipment and supplies.

Performs all nursing procedures (with the exception of certain injections, triage, IVs and IV medications) as directed by the clinician according to the guidelines in the Nursing Procedure Manual.

May be assigned lab duties

Assists in quality assurance and control.

Participates in the continuing educational process.

Assists in the efficient flow of patients.

Attends work as scheduled.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Should have experience with or knowledge of medical office systems, supplies and equipment.

Demonstrates clinical competence

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Allied Health Training program

Certification achieved by passing a National exam from a program other than the MA school

Proof of re-certification, if applicable

One year’s experience in a health facility, preferred.

Current CPR certification, preferred.
