POSITION SUMMARY
The medical assistant assesses, plans and implements the nursing care of patients, within the scope of practice of a medical assistant. This position works up patients (vitals), referrals, and assists providers as needed.
- Makes referrals to outside providers and specialists.

Performs admission and assessment activities for each patient prior to being seen by the clinic health care provider according to the reason for the visit.

Assists health care provider during clinic visits in accordance with the medical assistant scope of practice.
- Collects and prepares specimens for lab tests, preps patients for procedures, changes dressings, removes sutures, and administers immunizations.

Ensures exam rooms are stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintains instruments, prepares sterilization as required.

Schedules appointments and tests; enters orders into the electronic health record according to orders from and at the direction of the provider.

Performs emergency treatment as required in accordance within the medical assistant scope of practice.

Performs clinical administrative work such as phone calls and letters to patients.

Promotes and ensures patient and staff safety in all aspects of responsibilities.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required

Graduate from an approved medical assistant or CNA program required

LPN licensure preferred
Experience:
-
Previous experience in rural health clinic preferred

Previous experience as a medical assistant preferred
Licensure and Certification:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required

Current Med Aide certification in the State of Nebraska preferred
