Position Overview
The Medical Assistant will support both clinical and administrative functions of the primary care clinic. This role involves welcoming and preparing patients for their visits, assisting providers during examinations, performing routine clinical testing, coordinating referrals and authorizations, and ensuring smooth clinic operations for both scheduled and walk-in patients.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Intake & Clinical Support
- Welcome patients and assist with the check-in and rooming process
- Obtain and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, temperature, height, and weight
- Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during visits as needed
- Perform basic diagnostic and point-of-care testing, including pulmonary function tests (PFT), blood pressure checks, and other clinic-based assessments
- Ensure accurate documentation of clinical information in the patient chart
- Maintain exam rooms and clinical equipment in a clean and ready state
- Support clinical operations by managing EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems efficiently, documenting patient information, ICD coding, and updating records promptly
Patient Flow & Clinic Support
- Assist with patient flow for both scheduled appointments and walk-in visits
- Communicate effectively with providers and staff to support efficient clinic operations
- Provide clear instructions to patients regarding follow-up care, tests, or referrals
Administrative Responsibilities
- Process and track prior authorizations for medications, procedures, and imaging when required
- Coordinate specialist referrals and follow up on referral status with both patients and specialist offices
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the eClinicalWorks (eCW) electronic medical record system
- Assist with patient communications, scheduling support, and coordination of care
Qualifications
- Medical Assistant certification preferred (or equivalent clinical experience)
- Experience in a primary care or outpatient clinical setting preferred
- Comfortable using eClinicalWorks (eCW) or similar electronic medical record systems
- Ability to perform routine vital signs, point-of-care testing, and basic clinical procedures
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-focused approach
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced clinic environment
- Proactive, organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
