Medical Assistant | Ophthalmic Technician | Scribe {2 yrs experience}

Ophthalmic duties include but are not limited to: Taking patient histories, checking visions and IOP, administering OCTs, Visual Fields, A-scans, B-scans, Topography and Fundus Photography. Scribe experience is a plus. We will train the right candidate but they must have an interest in the medical field and be willing to learn. Excellent compensation and benefits. No weekends and a very friendly/pleasant work environment. Two offices: Williamsville and Orchard Park. Will require working at both locations as needed. Medent EMR.

COA/COT certification path available.

Responsibilities

  • Handling patient questions during visits and via phone, providing advice and resolving problems in consultation with Ophthalmologist.
  • Maintaining, calibrating, cleaning, and sterilizing ophthalmic instruments and equipment as indicated.
  • Assisting the Physicians in performing in-office ophthalmic procedures
  • Transcribing Physician's dictation into patient electronic medical record, as directed by the Physician according to Local, State and Federal guidelines
  • Monitoring inventory of supplies and restocks as necessary
  • Ensuring medication and treatment items are not expired
  • Oversee daily assignments and workflow of the Eye Institute
  • Lead orientation and training, and check work of new technical staff
  • Perform ophthalmic tests and procedures with proficiency in the ophthalmic sub-specialties
  • Report findings of tests and procedures according to established policy, such as Schirmer tear test or equivalent, Visual acuity (Distance), Visual acuity (Near), Potential visual acuity, Advanced slit lamp examinations, Refractometry, Worth 4 dots tests, Independent Ultrasound A-scan tests, CVF (confrontation), Topography
  • Transcribe patient appointments
  • Manage an average of at least two patients per hour, and a minimum of four patients per hour during peak times
  • Facilitate diagnostic tests and referrals to medical specialists
  • Assist the Physician with fundamental patient care
  • Maintain a clean and professional working environment
  • Assist with training of newly hired Medical Scribes

Skills

  • Ensure quality and safety of all patients and imaging following appropriate hospital and Eye Institute policies and procedures
  • Assist providers with ophthalmic imaging procedures such as flourescein angiography
  • Performing testing, including automated refractometer, lensometry, visual acuity measurements, and other patient services
  • Performs diagnostic and other ophthalmic testing procedures on patients, such as ultrasonography, perimetry, visual function (VER, ERG, EOG, and Dark adaptonmetry), biometry, tonometry and tonography
  • Schedules patient appointments testing
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare field preferred
  • Experience with medical terminology
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Impeccable verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent bedside manner
