Location: West Jordan, UT (On-site)

Employment Type: Full-time, M-Th 9AM- 6PM, F 1PM-5PM

Compensation: Hourly, $20-$22 an hour

Position Overview

Altium Health is seeking a proactive, organized, and compassionate Medical Assistant (MA) to support our medical and clinical teams. Working under the supervision of the Medical Director and Administrative Director, the MA plays a vital role in ensuring efficient patient flow, high-quality care delivery, and regulatory compliance.

This role requires a strong sense of empathy and the ability to work respectfully and effectively with vulnerable populations, including individuals navigating substance use and mental health challenges. The ideal candidate brings a calm, supportive presence and is committed to creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel heard, valued, and cared for. Success in this position depends on strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with providers, patients, and community partners.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support & Patient Care

  • Assist physicians and prescribers in all aspects of patient care within scope of training and experience
  • Record vital signs, COWS, CIWA assessments, and lab information
  • Support detox patient care including comfort checks, IV fluid monitoring, and medication tracking
  • Perform and document point-of-care testing including UDS, pregnancy tests, breathalyzer tests, and blood draws
  • Provide patient, family, and treatment companion education

Medication & Injection Management

  • Manage all aspects of injection treatments such as Vivitrol and Sublocade, including ordering, tracking, and administering
  • Assist with IV access and monitoring
  • Maintain on-site medication inventory and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Conduct appropriate medication counts with another staff member
  • Ensure controlled substances and in-house medications are securely stored (“double-locked”)
  • Manage, inventory, and properly dispose of patient medications according to regulations

TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) Responsibilities

  • Assist the provider with TMS mapping procedures, including patient preparation, positioning, and documentation
  • Conduct TMS treatment sessions in accordance with established clinical protocols and provider orders
  • Monitor patients during treatment for safety, comfort, and response; promptly report any concerns to the provider
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all TMS treatments in the patient’s medical record
  • Track and manage TMS patient referrals, ensuring appropriate scheduling and follow-up
  • Coordinate and process prior authorizations for TMS therapy with insurance providers
  • Collect, organize, and submit required medical records and supporting documentation for TMS prior authorizations
  • Provide patient education regarding TMS procedures, expectations, and aftercare
  • Ensure proper maintenance and readiness of TMS equipment according to clinic standards

Patient Flow & Scheduling Coordination

  • Oversee prescriber schedules and ensure efficient patient flow
  • Schedule follow-up medical and therapy appointments at the end of visits
  • Coordinate care with external providers, including EHR documentation and appointment scheduling

Administrative & Communication Duties

  • Monitor and respond to medical messages, faxes, emails, and prescriber inboxes throughout the day
  • Process medication refills, prior authorizations, and patient medical inquiries
  • Check Controlled Substance Databases at initial and follow-up visits as required
  • Assist with chart compliance, including discharge and transfer documentation
  • Track lab results and flag significant findings for providers

Office & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Maintain medical suite inventory (medical, clerical, kitchen, and waiting room supplies)
  • Ensure lab and medical supplies remain stocked
  • Assist with cross-training to support front desk and billing functions when needed
  • Perform routine upkeep of the medical suite (trash removal, surface cleaning, vacuuming, plant care)

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in a medical setting required
  • Phlebotomy and IV experience strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Comfortable working in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate, trauma-informed, and nonjudgmental approach when caring for vulnerable populations, ensuring patients feel safe, respected, and supported
