Medical Biller

Position Summary
Atlantic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is seeking a Medical Biller to support the billing and revenue cycle operations for a multi-provider orthopaedic practice with 22 providers across multiple service lines. This role is responsible for accurate charge processing, claim follow-up, payment posting, and patient account support, while also serving as a backup to the Credentialing Specialist to ensure continuity of provider enrollment and compliance.
This position plays a key role in maintaining timely reimbursement, minimizing denials, and supporting provider readiness across payer networks.
Primary Billing Responsibilities
- Perform charge entry and ensure timely and accurate claim submission
- Reconcile daily batches and payment postings
- Follow up on unpaid, underpaid, or denied insurance claims
- Prepare and submit insurance appeals as needed
- Respond to patient billing inquiries via phone and correspondence
- Collect patient payments and assist with payment plan arrangements
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
- Maintain accurate documentation within billing and practice management systems
- Assist with additional billing and clerical duties as assigned
Credentialing Support Responsibilities (Backup Coverage)
- Serve as a backup to the Credentialing Specialist to ensure uninterrupted credentialing operations
- Assist with maintaining provider credentialing records for physicians and advanced practice providers
- Support completion and follow-up of credentialing and recredentialing applications
- Assist with maintaining provider data in credentialing systems and payer portals (e.g., CAQH)
- Track license, DEA, and certification expiration dates and flag upcoming renewals
- Help ensure practice demographics remain accurate with payers and facilities
- Maintain confidentiality of all provider and credentialing information
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of insurance payers including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial plans
- Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding, including modifiers
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Comfort learning new systems and workflows
- Knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with medical billing, coding, or accounts receivable
- Prior exposure to provider credentialing or enrollment processes
- Experience with ModMed EHR a plus
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree or higher in healthcare or business preferred
- At least 1 year of medical billing, coding, or accounts receivable experience required
- Credentialing experience preferred but not required (training provided for backup coverage)
