We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Medical Biller / Receptionist to join our healthcare team! Duties
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with check-in procedures using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
- Submit insurance claims electronically and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to maximize collections
- Maintain detailed medical records, ensuring all documentation complies with privacy regulations and is properly organized
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies regarding claim status and resolve billing discrepancies promptly
- Assist in managing accounts receivable by performing medical collections when necessary and updating billing information regularly
- Manage patients accounts receivable for an internal medicine practice; podiatry experience a plus.
- Contact patients regarding outstanding balances; explain statements and payment options; set up payment arrangements when appropriate.
- Investigate and resolve patient insurance issues, including coordination of benefits (COB) updates and eligibility verification.
- Work denials, rejections, and appeals: research claim issues, prepare and submit appeals, and follow up with payers until resolution.
- Place calls to insurance companies for claim follow-up, status updates, and prior authorization/referral verification.
- Post patient and insurance payments accurately and reconcile daily payment batches.
- Use EMR (eClinicalWorks preferred) to document account activity, post payments, and update patient records.
- Use clearinghouses and payment portals (Zelis, Payspan, Optum) to process and reconcile payments and electronic remittances.
- Maintain accurate records of patient communications and account actions.
- Assist front desk with coverage check in / check out when needed.
- Assist with incoming office phone calls and triage billing-related inquiries.
- Run reports when needed.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve billing and patient account issues.
Experience
- Prior experience in medical billing, coding, or medical office administration is highly preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding standards is essential
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems to document patient visits and billing details accurately
- Strong understanding of medical office procedures, including appointment scheduling and patient communication
- Ability to interpret complex insurance policies and coding guidelines to ensure compliance and accuracy
- Minimum 3 + years of direct accounts receivable experience in an internal medicine practice.
- Strong knowledge of medical billing, coding basics, and payer rules.
- Demonstrated experience with denials, rejections, and appeals processes.
- Proven ability to contact and negotiate with patients regarding balances.
- Experience posting payments and reconciling accounts.
- Proficiency with EMR systems; eClinicalWorks preferred.
- Proficiency with UnitedHealthcare referrals/portal, Avility portal, clearinghouses, and payment portals (Zelis, Payspan, Optum).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in-office in Bayonne, NJ on the schedule listed.

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
