Duties
- Prepare and submit accurate medical claims using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10 coding systems, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications for hospital billing.
- Review medical records and documentation to ensure proper coding, including ICD coding and medical terminology accuracy.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly through effective communication with insurance companies and patients.
- Manage patient accounts by collecting outstanding balances via phone calls, text messages, email, or written correspondence while maintaining professional rapport.
- Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to update patient information, track billing status, and generate reports.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and pre-authorizations before billing.
- Maintain detailed records of all billing activities, collections efforts, and correspondence for audit purposes.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing and collections within a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG classifications.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and insurance claim processes.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems and understanding of medical office workflows.
- Excellent communication skills for effective patient follow-up and insurance negotiations.
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation and ensure accurate coding for reimbursement purposes.
- Knowledge of medical collection procedures and compliance standards related to healthcare billing.
