Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Coder/Biller with a strong background in gastroenterology. This role is responsible for auditing, accurate coding, charge entry, claims submission, payment posting, and follow-up to ensure optimal reimbursement and compliance for both professional (physician) and facility (ASC) services.

The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and payer-specific guidelines, along with strong communication skills and proficiency in EHR and billing systems. This individual must be detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and committed to maintaining high standards in billing accuracy, compliance, and revenue cycle performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately assign CPT, ICD-10 codes, and appropriate modifiers for both professional and facility gastroenterology services (e.g., office visits, colonoscopies, EGDs, polypectomies, biopsies)
• Review office visits, operative, physician, and pathology reports to ensure complete and accurate coding
• Submit electronic claims and manage the full claims lifecycle, including denial and rejection follow-up
• Contact insurance carriers to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely reimbursement
• Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines
• Post insurance and patient payments (EFT, check, credit card, cash)
• Reconcile payments daily to maintain accurate financial records
• Review delinquent accounts and assist with preparation and referral to collections per policy
• Verify insurance eligibility prior to billing to minimize denials
• Resolve issues related to inactive or incorrect insurance coverage
• Answer patient calls regarding billing inquiries and provide support to staff
• Respond to patient questions regarding billing, insurance, and payment status
• Provide clear, professional customer service in all interactions
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and regulatory standards
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all patients and practice information

Qualifications

• Required:
• Minimum 2 years of professional/facility coding and billing experience
• In-depth knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems
• Experience with EMR and practice management systems
• Effective organizational, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks

Preferred:

• Experience with gastroenterology coding
• CPC, CPB, or equivalent certification
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and general computer use

Pay: $20.25 - $22.00 per hour
