Medical Billing Specialist

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our medical billing and accounts functions, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of claims, handling accounts receivable and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. This position involves communicating and working closely with the Billing Manager, patients, insurance companies and other staff members to ensure charges are coded and billed correctly and that outstanding accounts are resolved.

Billing Responsibilities

• Review patient’s encounters in preparation of medical claims for accuracy
• Ensure that charges, that are imported from EHR software are coded correctly and the appropriate billing rules are followed.
• Key charges into the billing software based on the patient's visit, procedures and services provided
• Scrub, correct (if needed) and submit clean claims to insurance companies
• Resolve and correct any rejections from the clearinghouse for prompt resubmission of claims

Accounts Receivable Responsibilities

• Claim Follow-Up: Reviewing unpaid or denied claims from insurances and follow-up promptly, until resolved.
• Denial Management: Analyze claim denials, correct any errors, gather requested information and submit appropriate appeal or reconsiderations
• Correspondence: analyze Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) for next step to resolve claim

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in a healthcare billing role is required
• Basic knowledge of medical billing processes, coding and reimbursement systems
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively within a team
• Self motivator / Self starter
• Ability to research denial trends and provide office feedback of such
• Experience in Allscripts PM/EHR is preferred
