Medical Billing Specialist

Position Overview:

We are a fast-paced and client-focused personal injury law firm seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. This individual will play a critical role in managing, reviewing, and negotiating medical bills, ensuring accurate records, and supporting the firm’s settlement and disbursement processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Request, track, and obtain medical bills and records from healthcare providers.
  • Review and audit medical bills for accuracy, CPT codes, and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Organize, summarize, and maintain billing records in client files and case management systems.
  • Negotiate reductions with medical providers, health insurers, and lienholders as needed.
  • Coordinate with attorneys, case managers, and settlement departments regarding outstanding balances, liens, and disbursements.
  • Prepare itemized billing summaries to be included in settlement packages.
  • Communicate with providers and clients professionally and promptly.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and secure handling of all medical records and billing data.
  • Monitor and update lien balances including Medicare, Medicaid, and ERISA-based claims.

Required Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in medical billing, preferably within a personal injury or legal setting.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, billing codes (CPT, ICD-10), and lien processes.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and case management software (e.g., Needles, SmartAdvocate, Clio, etc.).
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with health insurance subrogation, Medicare/Medicaid liens, and ERISA-based plans.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and patient privacy standards.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
