Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

We are a busy and growing pediatric orthopedic practice seeking an experienced Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely claim submission, accurate coding, effective accounts receivable management, and optimal reimbursement from insurance carriers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and accurately code medical services using CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes.
- Submit electronic claims through clearinghouses and payer portals.
- Post insurance and patient payments accurately and timely.
- Investigate and resolve claim denials, rejections, underpayments, and appeals.
- Follow up on outstanding insurance balances and aging accounts receivable.
- Review EOBs and ERAs to ensure proper reimbursement.
- Conduct billing and coding audits to identify and correct errors.
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and payment issues.
- Maintain compliance with payer guidelines and billing regulations.
- Collaborate with providers and staff to ensure accurate documentation and coding.
- Assist with other revenue cycle functions as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of medical billing and coding experience required.
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and medical terminology.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical billing software.
- Knowledge of commercial insurance.
- Strong understanding of claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and accounts receivable follow-up.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPC certification or equivalent coding certification.
- Orthopedic or pediatric specialty billing and coding experience.
- Experience working in a high-volume medical practice.
