Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

Location: Southlake, TX
Job Type: Full-Time, In-Person

We are a busy and growing pediatric orthopedic practice seeking an experienced Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely claim submission, accurate coding, effective accounts receivable management, and optimal reimbursement from insurance carriers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and accurately code medical services using CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes.
  • Submit electronic claims through clearinghouses and payer portals.
  • Post insurance and patient payments accurately and timely.
  • Investigate and resolve claim denials, rejections, underpayments, and appeals.
  • Follow up on outstanding insurance balances and aging accounts receivable.
  • Review EOBs and ERAs to ensure proper reimbursement.
  • Conduct billing and coding audits to identify and correct errors.
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and payment issues.
  • Maintain compliance with payer guidelines and billing regulations.
  • Collaborate with providers and staff to ensure accurate documentation and coding.
  • Assist with other revenue cycle functions as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of medical billing and coding experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and medical terminology.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical billing software.
  • Knowledge of commercial insurance.
  • Strong understanding of claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and accounts receivable follow-up.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPC certification or equivalent coding certification.
  • Orthopedic or pediatric specialty billing and coding experience.
  • Experience working in a high-volume medical practice.
