Medical Billing Specialist

REPORTS TO: Medical Billing Specialist – Team Lead

SUMMARY: The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for providing overall support in the Billing Department. In addition, this position is responsible for preparing charges for submission to insurance plans/patients, posting insurance payments to practice management system and interacting with insurance companies/patients about billing status and questions.

I.QUALIFICATIONS

A. Third party billing experience.

B. Proficient in basic math skills.

C. Ability to work with the public.

D. Knowledge of HMO and other insurance requirements.

E. Knowledge of Coding.

F. Knowledge of HCFA 1500.

G. Proficient in the use of the practice management computer program.

H. Possess excellent telephone manner.

I. Ability to sit for long periods of time.

J. High School Diploma

II. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Sitting 7-8 hours per day

B. Computer and paper usage 7-8 hours per day

C. Climbing Stairs

III. POSITION DUTIES

A. Process electronic bill submissions/remits.

B. Print, review and process HCFAs.

C. Enter and review HMO referrals.

D. Apply charges to patient accounts.

E. Post insurance/patient payments to patient accounts.

F. Follow up on insurance claims/denials.

G. Accept patient or insurance company telephone inquiries and assist with problems.

H. Read emails/newsletters and correspondence from insurance companies.

I. Review and process patient statements.

J. Weekly account review and follow-up.

K. Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay: $20 per hour
