Medical Billing/Referral Clerk

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Billing/Referral Clerk to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will manage the billing processes, verify insurance coverage, and facilitate patient referrals to ensure seamless healthcare delivery. Your proactive approach will help optimize revenue cycles, maintain accurate medical records, and uphold compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic medical environment where accuracy, efficiency, and excellent communication are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits for patients, including OHP.
  • Review and resolve claim denials or rejections promptly, following up with insurance companies as needed.
  • Assist patients with billing inquiries, payment plans, and understanding their insurance benefits.
  • Keep detailed records of all billing transactions, referrals, and insurance verifications to support accurate financial tracking.
  • Process monthly statements calling all 60 and 90 day balances.
  • Working AR; claims that are over 30 days
  • Process all incoming referrals, calling patients to schedule.
  • Back up front desk with phones and scheduling as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager/assistant manager.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of managed care processes and insurance verification procedures.
  • Proven experience in a medical office environment with familiarity in medical terminology and medical records management.
  • Good understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in handling medical billing and referral documentation.
  • Effective communication skills for liaising with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
  • Prior experience in a medical office settings is a plus along with NextGen experience.

Hours

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Office is closed on Wednesday
  • 7:30 am -5:00 pm

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
