The Medical Clerk / Front Desk serves as the first point of contact for patients in a healthcare setting. This role is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative and clerical tasks that support daily clinical operations. The Medical Clerk ensures efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and compliance with healthcare regulations.

Greet and assist patients in a courteous and professional manner

Address client requests related to pharmacological management care.

If prescription refills are requested, verify in client's chart that refills are available. If so, contact the pharmacy to confirm and then contact the client to inform them that the refill(s) are available at the pharmacy for pick up.

Once refills have been approved by the prescriber and sent to the pharmacy, MA/LPN/RN will alert Med Clerk to inform the client that the script is available for pick up at the pharmacy.

Complete Prior Authorizations for insurance.

If no client refills are available in the chart or the client is expressing concerns regarding possible side effects, contact the MA/LPN/RN assigned to the prescriber to address with the prescriber

Once MA/LPN/RN has addressed the side effects with the prescriber and has information for the client, MA/LPN/RN will respond to the client directly

Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments

Verify patient demographics, insurance information, and identification

Check patients in and out, collecting copayments and required forms

Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in electronic medical record (EMR) systems

Answer phone calls, route inquiries, and take messages as needed

Coordinate communication between patients, providers, and clinical staff

Process referrals, authorizations, and basic billing paperwork when applicable

Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front desk area

Comply with HIPAA and healthcare privacy regulations at all times

High school diploma or GED (required)

Previous experience in a medical office preferred

Experience as a Medical Assistant preferred

Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare workflows

Proficiency in computer systems, including EMR/EHR software and Microsoft Office
