Medical Coder and Biller

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Medical Coder and Biller to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of medical coding and billing processes, ensuring accurate documentation and reimbursement for medical services. This role requires expertise in coding systems, medical terminology, and electronic health record (EHR) systems to facilitate seamless claims processing and revenue cycle management. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations while supporting the financial health of the practice.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assign diagnostic codes using ICD-10 and ICD coding systems to ensure precise medical record documentation.
• Utilize CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes for procedures and services to facilitate correct billing practices.
• Review medical records thoroughly to verify completeness and accuracy before submitting claims.
• Prepare and submit clean claims to insurance companies, government programs, or patients for reimbursement.
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices to maximize revenue recovery.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications to support hospital billing processes.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, during all coding and billing activities.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers and administrative staff to clarify documentation discrepancies or coding ambiguities.
• Manage electronic medical records (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) systems efficiently for data entry, retrieval, and reporting purposes.

Skills

• Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT coding, and DRG classifications essential for accurate billing.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy to interpret clinical documentation effectively.
• Experience with medical billing processes, including claim submission, follow-up, and collections.
• Familiarity with medical office operations and experience working within a healthcare environment.
• Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems used for documentation, coding, and billing workflows.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify errors or inconsistencies in medical records.
