Medical Coder and Biller

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Medical Coder and Biller to join our healthcare administration team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of medical coding, billing procedures, and healthcare documentation standards. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately translating medical diagnoses and procedures into standardized codes, ensuring precise billing processes, and facilitating smooth revenue cycle management. Your expertise will directly contribute to the efficiency of our medical office operations and the delivery of quality patient care.

Duties

  • Assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes to medical diagnoses and procedures based on detailed review of medical records.
  • Prepare and submit accurate medical claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to ensure timely reimbursement from insurance providers.
  • Review medical records meticulously to verify completeness, accuracy, and compliance with coding standards and regulations.
  • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices to optimize revenue recovery.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, healthcare regulations, and insurance policies affecting billing processes.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies and improve coding accuracy.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
  • Support the maintenance of organized medical records and documentation for audit readiness.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in medical coding and billing within a healthcare setting, with familiarity in using EMR/EHR systems.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classifications for hospital billing.
  • Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes essential for accurate code assignment.
  • Experience in medical office operations, including insurance claims processing and collections.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills to interpret complex medical documentation.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers and insurance representatives.
  • Prior experience with medical records management and compliance standards is highly desirable.
