Medical Collections Specialist

Duties

• Review and analyze outstanding medical accounts, verifying accuracy of billing information and insurance details
• Contact patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers to follow up on unpaid or partially paid claims
• Resolve discrepancies related to DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding errors
• Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems to access and update patient records efficiently
• Communicate clearly with patients regarding their balances, payment options, and account status
• Collaborate with medical offices to ensure proper documentation of medical records and billing information
• Maintain detailed logs of collection activities, correspondence, and payment arrangements in compliance with healthcare regulations

Qualifications

• Proven experience in medical billing, collections, or healthcare office administration
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding (DRG, CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10), and insurance processes
• Familiarity with EMR and EHR systems for managing electronic health records
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive patient interactions professionally
• Ability to analyze complex medical records and resolve billing discrepancies efficiently
• Attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple accounts simultaneously
• Prior experience working with medical records or in a healthcare setting is preferred
