Our interdisciplinary team—which includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, behavioral health professionals, and administrative staff—works together to enhance patient outcomes and facilitate long-term recovery.

We are seeking an experienced Medical Director (MD/DO) to join our dedicated staff. This role involves direct clinical oversight, medical governance, and collaboration with nursing and behavioral health teams to ensure a safe, supportive, and compliant environment for our patients.

Job Summary

The Medical Director (MD/DO) provides medical leadership, governance, and direct clinical oversight for NOVA ViA DX LLC’s 36-bed acute medical detox. This role ensures safe, evidence-based withdrawal management; supervises medical and nursing personnel; directs integrated care planning; and supports the organization’s technology-enhanced treatment model, including comprehensive EEG assessments, neuromodulation, hydrogen therapy, red-light therapy, NSS-2 Bridge, the proprietary BioMatrix Index™, exclusive contract with FDA-approved dinucleotide to minimize withdrawal symptoms, and acupuncture as clinically appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Oversight & Clinical Governance

  • Provide medical oversight for all detox and withdrawal management services.
  • Approve, develop, and maintain medical policies, detox protocols, standing orders, and clinical pathways (CIWA, COWS, AWS, benzodiazepine tapering, stimulant protocols).
  • Ensure medical staff compliance with AZDHS Title 9, DEA regulations, SAMHSA guidelines, OSHA, and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Maintain appropriate DEA registration and ensure controlled substance prescribing practices meet legal and ethical standards.
  • Ensure 24/7 medical coverage through on-call or scheduled rotations.

Direct Patient Care

  • Conduct medical histories and physicals (H&Ps) for admissions and oversee withdrawal management orders.
  • Provide direct evaluation and treatment for complex or high-acuity withdrawal cases.
  • Modify detox protocols and medications based on patient response and clinical stability.
  • Oversee discharge planning, referrals, and transitions to higher levels of care when needed.

Supervision of Providers & Nursing Staff

  • Supervise and collaborate with NPs, PAs, RNs, and LPNs.
  • Develop standing orders, delegation protocols, and clinical decision guidelines.
  • Ensure nursing staff understand and properly implement withdrawal management protocols.
  • Provide consultation during emergencies, acute clinical escalation, or complex medical cases.

Integration of Holistic Modalities

  • Oversee clinical appropriateness, safety, and implementation of integrative and technology-based modalities, including EEG neurological assessments, neuromodulation, NSS-2 Bridge, hydrogen therapy, red-light therapy, and the BioMatrix Index™.
  • Oversee approach with dinucleotide and auricular acupuncture protocols as adjunctive supports during withdrawal.
  • Ensure all modalities are used in accordance with FDA guidance, Arizona scope-of-practice rules, and AZDHS Title 9.
  • Ensure appropriate staff licensure and training for integrative therapies; review clinical outcomes and adjust protocols as needed.

Quality Assurance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Conduct medical chart audits, incident reviews, mortality/morbidity reviews, and quality improvement analyses.
  • Participate in regulatory inspections, AZDHS audits, payer audits, and internal compliance reviews.
  • Ensure proper medication management, including secure storage, controlled substance handling, and diversion prevention.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Officer on corrective action plans and risk mitigation.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work with behavioral health, nursing, and medical teams to develop integrated, trauma-informed treatment plans.
  • Participate in daily or weekly treatment team meetings, case reviews, and care-coordination activities.
  • Support patient transitions to residential, inpatient psychiatry, primary care, MAT programs, or outpatient IOP services.

Leadership, Training & Administrative Roles

  • Provide clinical training, onboarding, and competency validation for medical and nursing staff.
  • Ensure staff understand detox protocols, documentation standards, and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and organizational strategy discussions.
  • Assist in development of new clinical programs, research initiatives, and innovation aligned with NOVA ViA DX’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO with active, unrestricted Arizona medical license.
  • DEA registration with required schedules for detox-related prescribing.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in addiction medicine.
  • Minimum 5 years emergency medicine, internal medicine, psychiatry, or acute withdrawal management.
  • Experience supervising medical or nursing teams.
  • Ability to meet credentialing and background check requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board certification in Addiction Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, or related specialty.
  • Experience with integrated medical-behavioral health models..
  • Prior leadership or medical director experience.
