Medical Insurance Specialist

Duties

  • Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility using managed care systems and insurance portals
  • Assist patients with insurance questions, explaining coverage details and benefits clearly
  • Review medical records and documentation to ensure proper coding using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards
  • Process medical claims accurately and efficiently, following established billing procedures
  • Maintain comprehensive medical records while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy
  • Collaborate with medical offices and dental practices to facilitate insurance verification and claim submissions
  • Stay updated on changes in managed care policies, coding guidelines, and healthcare regulations to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Support the office team by managing medical terminology references and assisting with medical coding tasks as needed

Experience

  • Prior experience working in a medical office or dental office environment is highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of managed care processes, insurance verification, and claims processing
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to maintain confidentiality and security of patient information
  • Proficiency in CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems for accurate billing and documentation
  • Experience handling medical records management and medical terminology comprehension
  • Office experience demonstrating excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, insurance companies, and team members
