Job Summary
The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for confirming patients’ vision and medical insurance benefits prior to appointments to ensure accuracy, transparency, and a smooth patient experience. This role also supports front desk operations as needed, including assisting with patient check-in, scheduling, and communication.

What You Will Do

  • Verify vision and medical insurance eligibility prior to patient appointments.
  • Determine coverage details including copays, deductibles, allowances, and frequency limits.
  • Confirm benefits for exams, contact lenses, glasses, and medical services.
  • Communicate insurance coverage and estimated out-of-pocket costs to patients.
  • Accurately document benefit information in the practice management system
  • Obtain prior authorizations when required.
  • Coordinate with clinical and billing teams to ensure proper information flow.
  • Assist with answering phones, scheduling appointments, and general front office support.
  • Help with patient check-in and check-out when needed.
  • Provide a friendly, professional experience for patients at all points of contact.
  • Educate patients on the importance of routine and medical eye care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset

Preferred (but not required)

  • Experience in a medical or optometry office
  • Familiarity with vision plans such as VSP and EyeMed
  • Experience with electronic health records or scheduling systems
