Duties
- Verify patient insurance coverage through insurance portals and documentation, ensuring all details are current and accurate.
- Review medical records and documentation for completeness, consistency, and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Confirm patient demographics and medical history information during intake calls or in-person visits.
- Utilize medical coding knowledge, including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems, to accurately classify diagnoses and procedures.
- Collaborate with medical offices and insurance providers to resolve discrepancies or missing information promptly.
- Maintain detailed records of verification processes, updates, and communications in accordance with office policies.
- Support the team by assisting with administrative tasks related to medical records management and appointment scheduling as needed.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical office setting or healthcare environment is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of managed care processes and insurance verification procedures is essential.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and medical coding practices is required.
- Experience with HIPAA compliance standards to ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
- Proficiency with office software applications and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
