Medical Laboratory Technician

The Forsyth County Department of Public Health operates an internal Laboratory that provides lab results to our medical providers and clients being served in various clinics and programs within Public Health, which is necessary to assist in the control and spread of communicable diseases in Forsyth County. We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician who will work under the oversight of the Medical Laboratory Manager and Medical Laboratory Supervisor and will be responsible for performing a variety of routine and standardized medical laboratory tests using a variety of highly technical laboratory equipment. The tests being performed aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients being served by the Forsyth County Department of Public Health. This position performs and records quality controls for all diagnostic testing as well as for all laboratory equipment and may provide phlebotomy services, including venipuncture and finger sticks, to clients being served by the Department of Public Health.Our primary focus is on providing a superior level of service, which can be challenging but it also makes for a very rewarding career.Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Some Thursday evenings from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Working knowledge of test procedures performed in the laboratory.Working knowledge of applicable laboratory instruments, equipment, and terminology.Working knowledge of the physiological processes being monitored and how the medical laboratory science is applied.Thorough knowledge of the hazards of working with potentially infectious materials and the appropriate precautions to avoid infection.Ability to perform a variety of standardized laboratory tests accurately and independently.Ability to follow established procedures and keep accurate records.Ability to make accurate observations and written reports of test results.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Perform lab testing which screen for sexually transmitted infections using a variety of highly technical lab instruments.Assist in providing diagnostic services, sample collections and support related to adult health, TB Clinic, Nursing, Preventive Health and Environmental Health.Perform and record Quality Controls for all diagnostic testing.Assist with quality control for all incubators, refrigerators, freezers and sterilization instruments.Prepare and use media stains in a variety of lab tests.Lab result entry into the Laboratory Information System and/or Electronic Medical Record.Performs related work as required.
