Medical Laboratory Technician

Overview
Join our tight-knit healthcare team as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Laboratory Assistant where your expertise will play a vital role in delivering accurate and timely laboratory results that support patient diagnosis and treatment. This position offers the opportunity to work in a integrated clinical environment, utilizing your laboratory skills to contribute meaningfully to patient care. You will perform essential laboratory procedures, assist with specimen collection, and ensure the highest standards of accuracy and safety are maintained throughout all testing processes.

Specific Duties

· Basic phlebotomy including knowledge of best patient approach, potential for impact and reaction, needle/device utilization, capillary vs. vein selection, and proper patient identification.

· Responsible for specimen processing to prepare for send out and in-house testing, including correct specimen type, storage conditions, time constraints, and courier logistics.

· Performs specialized collection procedures such as glucose tolerance, breath testing, and other kit testing.

· Assists instruction of patients and professional staff in the correct collection of specimens and transport conditions with courtesy and professional scripting.

· Answers phone requests, handing off to supervisor/tech when necessary.

· Order entry of outside orders using Aprima, completion of tasks and notes, releasing orders in Orchard

· Assist and perform waived and non-waived testing, maintaining training and competency for each test system including; CoaguChek, DCA Vantage, Clinitek Status, pocH-100i, and GeneXpert.

· Assist with maintenance on small equipment such as centrifuge, DCA Vantage and Clinitek.

· Inventory and supply ordering to maintain laboratory supply levels using multiple vendors.

· Assist with state and other authority notification of reportable conditions and tests as required.

· Additional duties depending on qualifications, certifications, and experience.

Education and Experience

EDUCATION:

  • High school graduate.
  • >1 year phlebotomy experience or clinical training preferred.
  • Completion of MT/MLT/MLS program preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Basic computer literacy and the ability to learn new software programs and office equipment required.
  • Ability to work within a team and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to take direction, ask questions and request assistance when issues above training level arise.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Assures confidentiality for patient data/document filing, verbal information, tracking and audit according to Federal Law and clinic compliancy policies.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate with clinic personnel and patients.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to work an 8-hour plus shift. Must be able to move quickly, bend, squat, and assist patients as necessary.

Pay: $25.00 - $45.00 per hour
