Job Summary:

The ICU Medical Officer is responsible for providing continuous medical care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. The role involves monitoring patient conditions, administering treatment as per protocols, and coordinating with consultants, nursing staff, and paramedical teams to ensure high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage critically ill patients in the ICU.
  • Conduct regular patient rounds and update treatment plans in consultation with the ICU Consultant / Intensivist.
  • Assess patient conditions, review vital parameters, and respond promptly to medical emergencies.
  • Prescribe medications, order investigations, and interpret diagnostic test results.
  • Assist in performing life-saving procedures (intubation, central line insertion, etc.) under supervision or as per competency.
  • Maintain complete and accurate medical records, progress notes, and treatment charts.
  • Coordinate with nursing and paramedical staff to ensure implementation of care plans.
  • Communicate effectively with patient attendants regarding the patient’s condition and progress, as directed by the consultant.
  • Ensure infection control practices and patient safety protocols are strictly followed in the ICU.
  • Participate in clinical audits, mortality meetings, and continuous medical education sessions.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: MBBS/ BAMS from a recognized university.
  • Registration: Valid registration with State / Medical Council of India (NMC).
  • Experience: 3–4 years of experience in ICU / Emergency / Critical Care preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Knowledge of ICU equipment and monitoring systems.
  • Ability to handle medical emergencies efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Compassionate attitude toward patients and families.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to hospital protocols.
