Medical Oncologist diagnoses and treats cancer using chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy, developing personalized plans, managing symptoms, and leading multidisciplinary teams, while also educating patients and families and maintaining detailed records, focusing on holistic care throughout the patient's cancer journey. Key Responsibilities
- Diagnosis & Treatment Planning: Conduct examinations, order tests (blood, imaging, biopsies), interpret results, and create tailored treatment strategies.
- Medical Therapy Administration: Administer chemotherapy, targeted drugs, and immunotherapies, monitoring efficacy and side effects.
- Patient & Family Care: Counsel patients and families on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options, and managing symptoms and side effects to maintain quality of life.
- Team Collaboration: Lead and coordinate with surgeons, radiation oncologists, nurses, and other specialists for integrated care.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate patient records, progress notes, and treatment plans.
- Professional Development: Participate in tumor boards, clinical meetings, research, and ongoing training.
