About Us

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Josephine County was the first CAC established in Oregon and remains a leader in providing a child-centered, trauma-informed response to child abuse. As a nonprofit organization, our center serves over 200 children annually in our new, state-of-the-art facility. We are proud to be part of a strong multidisciplinary team (MDT) that includes law enforcement, child welfare, medical professionals, prosecutors, mental health providers, and advocates, working together to ensure the safety and well-being of children and families in Josephine County.

Position Summary

The Designated Medical Provider (DMP) provides forensic medical evaluation and consultation services for children referred to the CAC with concerns of abuse or neglect. This is an on-call role with a set case-based rate. The position covers:

  • Karly’s Law exams
  • Forensic medical examinations (acute and non-acute)
  • PSANE exams
  • Medical chart reviews and consultations

This is a unique opportunity for a physician or nurse practitioner with pediatric experience or SANE training to serve vulnerable children, contribute to investigations, and collaborate with a committed multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct forensic medical evaluations and photo-documentation.
  • Review and interpret medical charts; provide written reports for investigations.
  • Collaborate with MDT members to provide complete child abuse assessments.
  • Offer medical consultation to local providers and MDT members as needed.
  • Provide expert or fact witness testimony in legal proceedings when required.
  • Participate in case reviews and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain required continuing education in child abuse medicine.

Qualification

  • MD, DO, or Nurse Practitioner with an active Oregon license.
  • Pediatric experience preferred; SANE training strongly valued.
  • Experience with child abuse medicine is desirable.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary partners (law enforcement, DHS, DA’s office, mental health, etc.).
  • Compassionate communication skills; ability to remain objective and calm in crisis.
