Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, a friendly demeanor, and a strong understanding of medical administrative procedures. As a Medical Receptionist, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients, managing appointment scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. Your role is vital in providing exceptional patient service while supporting the clinical staff with administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and assist with check-in and check-out processes, ensuring a positive patient experience.
- Schedule appointments accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth.
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance eligibility and benefits verification to facilitate billing processes.
- Collect and process patient payments, including copays and outstanding balances, adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain accurate medical records by reviewing documentation for completeness and correctness in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Manage multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette, directing calls appropriately and taking detailed messages when necessary.
- Assist with administrative support tasks such as filing medical records, data entry, and managing clinic correspondence.
- Coordinate with clinical staff to facilitate patient intake procedures and ensure timely appointment scheduling.
- Utilize computer skills in Microsoft Office and health information management software.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment with familiarity in clinic operations.
- Strong knowledge of EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks; experience with dental terminology is a plus.
- Proficiency in medical billing, coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), insurance verification, and documentation review processes.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient service and phone etiquette; bilingual abilities are highly desirable.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to health information management and patient confidentiality.
- Clerical experience including filing, data entry, and managing multi-line phone systems; office management skills are preferred.
