Medical Receptionist

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional administrative support in a fast-paced medical environment. This role requires strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of medical terminology, and the ability to handle patient interactions with professionalism and care. The Medical Receptionist will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations at the front desk while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Manage patient scheduling, including appointments, cancellations, and rescheduling.
  • Collect and verify patient information, including insurance details and medical history.
  • Handle medical collections and billing inquiries efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA standards.
  • Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for patient management.
  • Perform insurance verification and assist patients with understanding their coverage.
  • Process medical coding using CPT coding, ICD-9, and ICD-10 for billing purposes.
  • Provide clerical support including filing, typing, and managing multi-line phone systems.
  • Assist with care plans and documentation review as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient service.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar administrative role within a medical office or clinic setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency in EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding, CPT coding, Medicare processes, and health information management.
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply; fluency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong typing skills with experience in 10 key typing preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service with effective phone etiquette.
  • Familiarity with dental terminology is beneficial for those applying to dental practices.
