Medical Receptionist

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly and manage check-in/check-out procedures with professionalism and efficiency
  • Schedule appointments accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and Medicaid, ensuring proper authorization and documentation review
  • Collect payments and process medical collections with attention to detail and compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Maintain organized medical records, including filing, scanning, and updating patient information in EMR systems like eClinicalWorks or Dentrix
  • Answer multi-line phone systems promptly with courteous phone etiquette; direct calls appropriately
  • Assist with medical billing, CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, and documentation review to support accurate claims submission
  • Support clinic operations by managing medical scheduling, appointment reminders, and care plans coordination
  • Ensure compliance with health information management standards and confidentiality requirements under HIPAA guidelines
  • Perform clerical tasks such as data entry, typing reports, filing documents, and managing office supplies efficiently

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment with strong clerical skills
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix or Eaglesoft
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and Medicare procedures
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn new software quickly
  • Strong understanding of insurance verification processes and medical billing practices
  • Exceptional patient service skills with a friendly demeanor and professional phone etiquette
  • Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly in accordance with HIPAA regulations
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse patient populations
  • Previous clinic or dental office experience highly preferred; familiarity with dental terminology is advantageous
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; capable of multitasking in a busy environment
