Medical Receptionist/Medical Assistant - Hybrid, Bilingual, Full Time

Position Summary

The Medical Receptionist is responsible for all aspects of patient check-in and check-out, including gathering and verifying all patient information, and collecting patient fees. This employee also answers incoming phone calls, schedules patient appointments. The receptionist is usually the first person a new patient meets when entering a Community Health Centers' clinic and it is essential that an atmosphere of professionalism, order, and concern for the patient is created.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities listed herein represent the Essential Functions this position regularly and customarily performs. As such, this list is not intended to be exhaustive, and additional job-related duties that are similar in nature or logical extensions of the Essential Functions may also be performed.

1. Checks patients in and out in an orderly and timely manner, ensuring that all patient information is complete and accurate, and patients are treated courteously.

2. Performs new patient registration, including setting up new patient charts and determining eligibility; also enters updates on all patient master file information.

3. Collects patient fees at time of service and safeguards all money kept in the clinic.

4. Performs end-of-day procedures, including balancing of the cash drawer and balances with the EMR and receipts.

5. Performs Medical Records duties when the need arises.

6. Attends weekly and monthly clinic and organizational meetings as requested.

7. Assists patients and interacts with billing office on patient billing questions.

8. Aids patients in connecting with follow-up services, including patients that are picking up forms, purchasing diabetic supplies or other services that CHC offers.

9. Helps facilitate calls the clinic receives from the CHC Call Center that require further clarification from the clinic or a connection with the provider/provider team.

10. Records all in-house labs in EMR and informs provider of result.

11. If clinic accepts extern/intern Medical Assistants, assumes responsibility for clinic training following CLIA and OSHA guidelines.

12. Updates CLIA logs daily.

13. When needed, answers incoming phone calls in a courteous manner and leaves complete messages with appropriate clinic personnel.

14. Performs routine Medical Assisting duties, including vitals, EKGs, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, iFOB, hga1C, Hgb, blood glucose phlebotomy, venipuncture, capillary collection, butterfly, syringe injections (intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous).

15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Education Requirements

1. Types minimum of 45 wpm

2. Training and/or prior experience with various office machines including computer, 10-key adding machine, photocopier, and similar

3. Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure

4. Ability to interact and communicate well with the public

5. Ability to be sensitive to the clients' needs, especially to dysfunctional and low-income clients

6. Ability to relate well with physicians and other clinic staff; must be able to work together as a team

7. Must be able to read, write and speak English.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bilingual capabilities (English-Spanish) preferred

2. Medical Office experience preferred

Position Also Requires:

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

· Use of a phone headset or handset

· Prolonged periods of standing and bending

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

· Typical setting is a clinical patient-facing position

· Typical setting is an office with moderate office noise level

· Regular and reliable on-site attendance

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $17.05 per hour
