Medical Records Specialist

Job Summary

The Medical Records Specialist will manage and coordinate the lifecycle of patient information, ensuring records are accurate, confidential, compliant, and easily accessible using EHR systems, handling filing, record transfers, and adhering to data security to protect sensitive health data.

1) Create, organize, maintain, store, retrieve, and destroy patient records according to policy.

2) Facilitate record transfers, both incoming and outgoing, to ensure continuity of care.

3) Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA, privacy laws, and data security protocols.

4) Implement and manage Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems with IT, ensuring data integrity.

5) Generate reports for leadership, quality improvement, and audits, as needed.

6) Work with providers, admin, and insurance for documentation.

7) Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external providers.

8) Perform administrative tasks related to the medical records process, such as generating reports, analyzing transfer patterns, and identifying opportunities for process improvement.

9) Duties as assigned, relevant to the medical records management process.

10) Develop and sustain positive working relationships with all SCRFHC team members.

Experience/Education requirements

  • Education: High School diploma required. Post-Secondary School preferred. Prior medical records experience or similar role is preferred.
  • Knowledge: HIPAA, medical coding, EHR systems, healthcare regulations.
  • Skills: Organization, attention to detail, communication, discretion, computer proficiency (MS Office, EHRs). Strong customer service focus. Works effectively independently and within a team environment. Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills.

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
