Medical Scribe – Hematology / Oncology - Oncology Experience a Must

Job Description

We are a busy Hematology & Oncology practice in New York City seeking an experienced Medical Scribe to work directly with a board-certified hematologist-oncologist. The ideal candidate has prior hematology/oncology experience and is comfortable documenting complex oncology visits in real time.

This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, fast-paced, and familiar with cancer care workflows, infusion-based treatments, and oncology documentation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately document patient encounters in real time during clinic visits
  • Prepare and complete H&P notes, progress notes, follow-ups, and consult notes
  • Document oncology-specific details including:
  • Cancer diagnoses and staging
  • Treatment plans (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics)
  • Lab trends, imaging, and pathology summaries
  • Enter and update problem lists, medications, and treatment history
  • Assist with EMR navigation and chart completion to improve physician efficiency
  • Ensure documentation supports medical necessity and continuity of care
  • Maintain strict HIPAA compliance at all times

Requirements

  • Prior medical scribe experience required
  • Hematology/Oncology experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with oncology terminology, regimens, and clinical workflows
  • Experience working with EMRs (Epic, eClinicalWorks, Athena, or similar)
  • Strong typing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to keep up in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background as a medical assistant, nurse, pre-med, PA/NP student, or oncology clinical staff
  • Experience in outpatient oncology or infusion center settings
  • Knowledge of cancer staging, lab interpretation, and oncology documentation standards

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
