Job Summary
Provides consistent, safe personal care to the sisters of Lakeside Health and the West Wing areas of the Benedictine Monastery. Assists in supporting all health care needs of the Benedictine community. Adheres to all policies in the Employee Handbook. Demonstrates respect for the Benedictine values of stewardship and hospitality. Supports the monastic atmosphere of the Benedictine Sisters.
Responsibilities
- Practices Sister centered care based upon the Sister's physical, mental and spiritual health.
- Prioritizes care/work assignments in a low patient ratio environment.
- Maintains clean/safe environment in resident's rooms in accordance with daily tasks: this includes but is not limited to linen changes, bed making, removal of trash every shift, wipes surfaces, restocking supplies, etc.
- Maintains clean/safe environment in common use areas: hallways, kitchen, lounge, tub room, desk, common bathroom, storage areas, med room, etc.
- General light housekeeping duties: dishes, laundry, nurse aide station, sunset room, and kitchen in a neat and orderly fashion, etc.
- Performs basic nurse aide care which includes: a) answering bells promptly, b) walking residents, c) taking and recording vital signs, d) testing blood sugars, e) intake and output, bowel movements, weights, f) turning and positioning residents, g) providing skin care, h) provides post-mortem care in accordance to the practices of the Benedictine Sisters.
- Documents care in appropriate charts and forms. This includes resident charts, daily care planning review, flow sheets, and medication book.
- Operates health care equipment such as a Hoyer lift, Sabina Lift, motorized wheelchairs, dishwasher, and washing machine- in a safe manner and in accordance to manufacturer's direction and policy.
- Assists with resident's participation in activities: assists in transporting residents to other areas of the monastery as needed for activities that provide socialization. This includes prayer, holiday parties and celebrations, etc. This may involve the participation of the aide
- Contributes to the practice of restorative health. Provides range of motion exercises, massage, deep breathing exercises and other non-invasive treatments as needed.
- Administer medications and injections accurately following physician orders while adhering to safety protocols and HIPAA regulations.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physical examinations to inform treatment plans.
- Assists other Sisters as directed by nursing.
- Attends all staff meetings.
Qualifications
- Valid medical assistant/technician certification.
- Demonstrated experience in diverse healthcare environments, such as nursing homes, residential settings, and hospice.
- Ability to perform physical examinations and assessments with attention to detail; familiarity with geriatrics.
- Excellent communication skills working with geriatrics, particularly patients with dementia.
- Commitment to infection control standards and HIPAA compliance to protect patient privacy and safety.
- 1-2 years experience preferred.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
