Medical Transcriptionist/Office Support

Medical Transcription Duties:

  • Transcribe dictated audio recordings from physicians into accurate medical reports.
  • Review, edit, and format electronic health records (EHR) generated by speech recognition software.
  • Identify and clarify inconsistencies, errors, or missing information in clinical dictations.
  • Adhere strictly to institutional data security protocols and national health privacy acts.

Medical Billing Duties:

  • Translate clinical documentation into standardized diagnostic and procedural medical codes.

General Office Duties:

  • Provide customer service to clients, patients and the laboratory.
  • Prepare and mail out slides and blocks.
  • Properly identify samples and sites where specimens are obtained.
  • Handle and perform accurate accession of patient, testing and specimen into laboratory information system (MAC based) and trouble shooting.
  • Accurate labeling of specimens.
  • Prepare and send out specimens.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Skills: Expertise in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems.
  • Transcription: Minimum typing speed of [e.g., 65-70] WPM with a 99% accuracy rate.
  • Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience operating major EHR/EMR Systems and medical billing platforms.
  • Medical Knowledge: Advanced understanding of anatomy, physiology, and clinical terminology.
  • Compliance: Comprehensive operational knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient data safety protocols.
  • Soft Skills: Extreme attention to analytical detail, stellar time management, and polite phone etiquette.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in healthcare administration preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Transcription or Medical Billing and Coding program preferred
  • Minimum of [e.g., 2-3] years of active experience in clinical transcription or medical billing.
  • Preferred Certifications: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS).
