Position: Medication Technician

Reports to: Health and Wellness Director

Position Overview:

The Medication Technician (Med Tech) is responsible for safely assisting residents with self-administration of medications as ordered by physicians and in accordance with state regulations (Title 22). In addition to medication management, the Med Tech provides direct care with activities of daily living (ADLs), monitors resident health, and communicates with families, nurses, and other staff to ensure resident well-being.

The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties. It is not all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition, management, as appropriate, may modify this job description.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Assist residents with self-administration of medications in accordance with physician orders, community policies, and Title 22 regulations.

· Maintain accurate documentation of all medication administration, refusals, and changes in the Medication Administration Record (MAR).

· Ensure medications are stored securely, organized properly, and within expiration dates.

· Monitor for side effects, adverse reactions, or unusual behaviors and promptly report changes in condition to the Wellness Director or licensed staff.

· Perform regular medication audits and report discrepancies immediately.

· Reorder medications as needed, track deliveries, and ensure proper labeling from the pharmacy.

· Assist with coordinating refill requests, new orders, and medication discontinuations with pharmacies and physicians.

· Provide assistance with ADLs (activities of daily living), including bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, ambulation, and hygiene needs.

· Respond quickly and appropriately to resident call lights, requests for assistance, or emergencies.

· Support residents during mealtimes by serving meals, assisting with eating if needed, and ensuring dietary preferences and restrictions are followed.

· Monitor and document resident weight, vital signs, and fluid intake/output as directed.

· Promote resident engagement by encouraging participation in community activities, outings, and wellness programs.

· Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspaces, including medication carts, storage rooms, and common areas.

· Participate in care planning discussions, shift hand-offs, and staff meetings to ensure continuity and quality of care.

· Uphold infection control protocols, universal precautions, and community sanitation practices.

· Respect and protect resident rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.

· Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, especially those with memory impairment or increased care needs.

· Assist with new resident move-ins, including room setup, orientation, and initial assessments as directed.

· Support other team members as needed to maintain a positive, collaborative, and resident-focused work environment.

· Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Health and Wellness Director or supervisor to support resident care and community operations.

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Previous experience in medication administration in in senior care, healthcare, or assisted living preferred.

Other Qualifications:

· Minimum age of 18 years old.

· Successful completion of a certified Medication Technician training program and/or facility-provided training.

· Current First Aid and CPR certification required (or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire).

· Must pass a criminal background check and TB screening

· Ability to lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs and support residents with mobility and physical care.

· Strong attention to detail, organization, and clear communication skills.

· Compassionate, dependable, and team-oriented attitude.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

· This position involves both office-based tasks and active engagement with residents.

· Must be available to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, evenings, or overnight shifts as needed.

· Works under the supervision of the Wellness Director and licensed nursing staff.

· May be exposed to various resident care needs, including those in memory care.

· Responsible for accurate documentation and maintaining compliance at all times.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
