Medication Technician (Med Tech) Job Description
Position Summary:
The Medication Technician (Med Tech) is responsible for administering medications to residents in accordance with physician orders, company policies, and state regulations. This role ensures resident safety, accurate documentation, and effective communication with the care team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer medications to residents as prescribed, following proper procedures and safety protocols
- Accurately document medication administration, refusals, and any observed side effects
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and report concerns to nursing staff or management
- Assist with vital signs monitoring as directed (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature)
- Maintain medication carts, storage areas, and ensure medications are properly labeled and secured
- Reorder medications and coordinate with pharmacies as needed
- Follow all infection control and safety guidelines
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed
- Respond promptly to resident needs, emergencies, and call lights
- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, caregivers, and families
- Ensure compliance with all state regulations and facility policies
Qualifications:
- Current Medication Technician certification (as required by state regulations)
- CPR/First Aid certification (preferred or required)
- Previous experience in assisted living, memory care, or healthcare setting preferred
- Knowledge of medication administration procedures and terminology
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to assist residents with mobility and transfers
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
Work Environment:
- Assisted Living Facility / Residential Care Facility / Skilled Nursing setting
- May require working weekends, holidays, and various shifts (AM/PM/NOC)
Additional Notes:
- Must maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Must complete ongoing training and competency evaluations
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
