Member Service Representative

“Greet and Provide Credit Union Outstanding Services to Members”

Provide excellent service to the membership by exceeding their expectations. Acknowledge members as they enter the credit union and do everything possible to meet their needs.

Be knowledgeable and answer general questions about all credit union services and products.

Process over-the-counter, mail and night drop transactions including deposits, withdrawals, share drafts, check withdrawals, transfers and loan payments.

Issue money orders, gift cards, travel cards, pre-paid cards, cashier checks, stamps, copy of checks and other products and services offered by credit union.

Answer telephone, provide information requested or refer to appropriate MPCU employee.

Explains, promotes, sells or cross-sells all credit union products or services.

Communicates to members regarding such transactions as overdrafts, charges and fees, transfers and surcharges relating to share, share draft and ATM accounts.

Process mail and distribute to appropriate MPCU employees.

Balance currency, coin, and checks in cash drawers at the end of the day. Calculate daily transactions using computers, calculators, or adding machines. Enter checks on remote deposit and send for deposit at the end of the day.

Cash checks and pay out money after verifying that signatures are correct, that written and numerical amounts agree, and that accounts have sufficient funds.

Receive checks and cash for deposit, verify amounts, and check accuracy of deposit slips.

Examine checks for endorsements and to verify other information such as dates, bank names, identification of the persons receiving payments and the legality of the documents. Enter member’s transactions into computers in order to record transactions and issue computer-generated receipts. Count currency, coins, and checks received, by hand or using currency-counting machine, in order to prepare them for deposit.

Identify transaction mistakes when debits and credits do not balance. Prepare and verify cashier's checks. Resolve problems or discrepancies concerning member’s accounts. Perform clerical tasks such as typing, filing, and document imaging. Order a supply of cash to meet daily needs. Sort and file deposit slips and checks. Receive and count daily inventories of cash, drafts, money orders and stamps. Carry out special services for members, such as ordering cards and checks.

Know all security procedures of MPCU.

Have a working knowledge of hardware, software and security of computer system.

Assure proper maintenance, cleanliness, security and professionalism of work areas and equipment. Extend complete “confidentiality” with member information.

Assist other MPCU employees when needed or when there is non-productive periods. Perform other duties as assigned. Cross-train in all aspects of credit union responsibilities.

Continue training and education to enhance knowledge of credit union services and products.

Open new accounts and service existing accounts. Maintain membership files including membership cards, account change cards and other documents pertient to member services.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of credit union law, policies, procedures, programs, services and products.

Knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, computer systems and equipment, and general knowledge of accounting procedures.

Ability to deal with the public courteously and tactfully, to elicit information effectively and to convey concise, accurate explanations of policies and programs.

Ability to carry out assignments completely and accurately, with limited supervision.

Desirable Experience, Education and Training

Completion of standard high school course including or supplemented by courses in typing, basic computer knowledge, bookkeeping and general office procedures. Some experience in credit unions or banking and dealing with the public desirable.
