Job Description Summary

At Transhealth, we are actively seeking clinicians who are unwavering in their devotion to delivering exceptional, gender-affirming care across the lifespan. This care must move forward, no matter the storm.
The Mental Health Director is a clinical leadership position and the clinician in charge of the Mental Health department. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and would also have access to a contracted clinical supervisor for additional support.
The Mental Health Director responsibilities include clinical and administrative supervision of a team of psychotherapists, working closely with the leadership of the Medical department on integration of care, and providing clinical care for a small caseload of clients.
This position requires a collaborative leader with demonstrated experience conducting comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, including complex differential diagnoses and clinical rule-outs, and making nuanced clinical determinations regarding readiness and appropriateness for gender-affirming medical care.
The Mental Health Director must be comfortable working with both adults and youth, including assessing developmental considerations, family dynamics, and support systems that impact care. The Director will lead the development and oversight of departmental workflows, policies, and care protocols to support high-quality, coordinated, and affirming mental health services within an integrated, interdisciplinary healthcare setting.

Objectives & Responsibilities:
- Work with Mental Health team and fellow Leadership team members to determine departmental and organizational goals and objectives
- Work collaboratively to streamline processes, enhance communication, provide whole-person care, and foster clinician wellbeing
- Supervise all employees in the Mental Health department, including coordinating on hiring, training, promoting, co-creating goals and competencies, and back-on-track plans for employees in the Department
- Project manage the delegation, creation, continued refinement, and execution of departmental policies and procedures
- Ensure all employed members of the Mental Health department receive quality, well-documented individual and group supervision
- Enhance and support the Mental Health staff with mentoring and role modeling of affirming, trauma-informed, ethical, patient-centered care in a team setting
- Work directly with Mental Health staff to educate them on the practice’s care process and determine what can be done to improve overall care quality
- Act as a key stakeholder and mental health expert regarding needs across the organization
- Partner with the administrative team to lead in the development and execution of workflow processes for care delivery with impact on value, quality improvement, utilization, clinician wellbeing, affirming whole patient care, and mental health protocol development
- Plan for and execute crisis response at Transhealth, while also responding to patient crisis as an equal member of the team
- Raise departmental staffing needs as they arise, including additional clinical supervisor(s), assistant director, or ability to host interns in the future
- Partner with other departments to provide integrated programs within the organization, particularly with Primary Care leadership to optimize integration across the practice.
- Advocate for and elevate the needs of mental health staff, including workload, wellbeing, and clinical integrity, within leadership discussions and organizational decision-making processes
- Demonstrate self-awareness of one’s own identities, lived experiences, and positional power, as well as the ability to reflect on how these influence clinical decision-making, supervision, team dynamics, and delivery of equitable, affirming care
- Ensure that equity and justice are embedded in clinical care, team practice, and departmental policies, including identifying and addressing barriers to access, disparities in care, and inequities within the work environment.

Licensure, Qualifications, & Experience:
- LICSW license within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- 2+ years of individual and group clinical supervision experience required; training and/or certification / 5+ years preferred
- 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience required; 5+ years preferred
- Adhere to the profession’s clinical standards and code of ethics
- Maintain the standards and educational requirements specific to the position, licensure, credentials, professional growth, and development
- Maintain and update clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research
- Experience providing psychotherapy to the LGBTQ+, and specifically, the transgender/gender diverse community is required
- Experience with Slack, G Suite, and other software programs
- Must be able to adhere to and champion the values of Transhealth
