Job Summary:
The Mentor/Tutor Homeless Students is responsible for direct tutorial and liaison services to the children in residence at emergency shelters in Genesee County. The tutor will assist school-age children in maintaining studies and will communicate with the project director and in-house staff at the shelters to coordinate services for the students.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
1. Obtains information from the shelter counselors and school personnel regarding the educational status of the student.
2. Develops a plan of educational assistance in relation to the individual needs of each student.
3. Communicates with shelter personnel, project director and school personnel to facilitate educational progress for each student.
4. Maintains all rights of privacy and confidentiality.
5. Assists students in using educational software on a personal computer.
6. Attends training or meetings required by project director.
7. Maintains records on services provided to each student.
8. Assists parents in increasing their understanding and knowledge about the expectations for homework and strategies to get involved with their child's education
9. Consistently models Win-Win leadership
10. Maintains accurate records, including attendance, timesheets, and other required documentation.

Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience:
Previous tutoring experience preferred. Experience working with social services agencies and/or classroom experience preferred.
Skills/Other:
Demonstrates a command of both written and oral language. Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency, as required skills sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Demonstrated emotional stability and physical stamina necessary for performing the essential job duties. Ability to work a flexible workday, work week, and work year. Must possess a valid Michigan driver license. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Represents the district in a professional manner at all times. Works successfully as a member of the team. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
