Job Purpose

Coordinate and govern the project’s MEP technical delivery—design reviews, multi-discipline coordination, authority/consultant interfaces, document quality control, and value engineering—so that MEP designs, shop drawings, and submittals meet codes, authority requirements, and employer standards while supporting cost and schedule objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Review & Compliance (MEP): Ensure all Mechanical, Drainage, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical, and ELV designs are reviewed/verified against applicable codes, authority regulations, and Employer Requirements; record non-conformities and drive closure.
  • Authority & Stakeholder Liaison: Liaise effectively with Authorities, Clients, and Consultants for designs, documents, shop drawing approvals, and NOCs/permits; maintain trackers and escalate risks.
  • Documentation Quality Control: Implement robust QC measures for all submissions to Authorities, Clients, Consultants, Vendors, and Subcontractors; enforce standard templates, checklists, and filing discipline.
  • Value Engineering: Develop and propose MEP cost/time optimization options without compromising performance or compliance; maintain VE registers with quantified impacts and approvals.
  • Site Technical Support: Provide timely technical guidance to site teams on constructability, MEP interfaces, and RFIs; review and sign off method statements and ITPs with QA/QC and Safety.
  • Design/Coordination Meetings: Lead/participate in design review and coordination meetings with consultants, clients, and authorities; issue minutes, actions, and deadlines.
  • Interdisciplinary Coordination: Coordinate between Architectural, Structural, and MEP disciplines to identify and resolve clashes and interface issues ahead of execution.
  • Drawing Reviews: Review and approve MEP shop drawings, builders’ work drawings, and as-built drawings prior to submission; ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Submittals & Approvals: Ensure timely preparation, submission, and approval of design/shop drawings and material submittals as per schedule/priority.
  • Process & Tools: Develop and implement tools/systems (dashboards, registers, BIM clash workflows, submission calendars) to expedite workflows and enhance project efficiency.
  • Change Control: Manage RFIs/VOs related to MEP; maintain change logs and align with Planning, Procurement, and QS for downstream impacts.
  • Handover Readiness: Ensure redlines, O&M manuals, testing & commissioning records, and authority close-outs are complete and compliant.

  • Mandatory Education: B.E. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience: 10–12 years in the UAE with a Construction/Main Contractor in MEP design coordination/technical management.
  • Strong knowledge of UAE authority processes and codes/standards for MEP (mechanical ventilation, plumbing & drainage, civil defense/fire protection, electrical & ELV).
  • Preferred exposure to ISO 9001/14001/45001 processes and formal document control systems.

Software/Tools (Familiarity; not mandatory to use)

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical comprehension across HVAC, plumbing & drainage, fire protection, electrical, and ELV; ability to challenge/validate designs and calculations.
  • Authority interface management and approvals strategy (e.g., DM/Trakhees/DDA/ADDC/DEWA/SEWA/FEWA/Civil Defense, as applicable).
  • Quality mindset with rigorous documentation discipline and attention to detail.
