MEP Foreman – Duties and Responsibilities (YEARS OF EXPERIENCE 10 YEARS) (QUALIFICATION –DIPLOMA-ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL)
An MEP Foreman (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) is responsible for supervising site installation activities and ensuring all MEP systems are installed safely, correctly, and according to project specifications and schedule.
1. Supervision & Team Management
- Supervise HVAC, electrical, and plumbing technicians on site
- Assign daily tasks and monitor workforce productivity
- Ensure workers follow approved drawings and method statements
- Train and guide new workers and apprentices
2. Drawing & Technical Review
- Read and interpret MEP drawings, shop drawings, and specifications
- Verify site conditions against drawings
- Identify clashes between ductwork, piping, cable trays, and structure
- Coordinate with other trade foremen (civil, structural, finishing)
3. Installation Oversight
- Monitor installation of:
- HVAC systems (ducting, AHUs, chillers, FCUs)
- Electrical systems (conduits, panels, wiring, lighting)
- Plumbing systems (water supply, drainage, fire fighting)
- Ensure proper levels, alignment, slopes, and supports
- Check that installations meet project quality standards
4. Safety Responsibilities
- Enforce site safety rules and regulations
- Conduct toolbox talks
- Ensure use of PPE (helmets, gloves, safety harnesses)
- Identify hazards and report incidents immediately
5. Quality Control
- Inspect completed work before consultant/client inspection
- Ensure compliance with local building codes and standards
- Coordinate pressure testing, insulation inspection, and system checks
- Rectify defects and ensure proper finishing
6. Material & Equipment Management
- Request materials as per project schedule
- Check material quality and quantities upon delivery
- Control material usage to minimize waste
- Ensure tools and equipment are maintained properly
7. Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain daily work progress reports
- Track manpower and productivity
- Report delays or technical issues to the MEP Engineer or Project Manager
- Assist in achieving project milestones
8. Testing & Commissioning Support
- Assist during testing and commissioning of MEP systems
- Coordinate with QA/QC and third-party inspectors
- Ensure systems are ready for handover
