Job Title: MEP Quantity Surveyor / Procurement Specialist
Location: Lusail, Doha - Qatar
Employment Type: Full‐time
About Us
Solmacher Solar Energy is dedicated to designing, delivering, and implementing advanced solar energy technologies housed in modular, lightweight structures. It serves commercial, industrial, municipal, and utility clients with on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid solar energy systems, helping them lower energy costs and reduce carbon emissions.
Role Overview
As the MEP Quantity Surveyor / Procurement Specialist on our solar project, you will oversee the cost management, procurement and contract administration for MEP works associated with the solar installation – including modules, racking, inverters, cables, electrical infrastructure, auxiliary systems, and associated services. You’ll ensure accuracy in estimates and BOQs, effective sourcing and negotiation of suppliers and subcontractors, and rigorous cost control throughout the lifecycle of the project. This role bridges QS and procurement in a renewable energy context.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs, bills of quantities (BOQs) and cost estimates for MEP scopes of the solar project (mechanical services, electrical systems, plumbing/fire-fighting if applicable) aligned with renewable/infrastructure context. Similar to general QS duties: tender documents, cost planning, contract admin.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies for MEP components and services — sourcing vendors/subcontractors, issuing tenders, evaluating bids, negotiating terms and awarding contracts.
- Monitor cost performance for MEP works: track actual vs budget, provide cost forecasts, cost-to-complete analyses, interim valuations, monthly commercial reporting.
- Administer contracts: review and manage subcontractor/supplier contracts, variations, claims, final accounts specifically tied to MEP works in a solar project environment.
- Provide support during project close-out: final account reconciliation, lessons-learned cost database updates, procurement contract closure.
- Collaborate with project engineering, planning, construction, and supply chain teams to ensure MEP deliverables align with budget, schedule and quality.
- Maintain cost databases and unit rate libraries for MEP trade items in the solar context, drive value-engineering where appropriate.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in quantity surveying and procurement , ideally with some exposure to MEP works and/or renewable energy or infrastructure projects (solar PV preferred).
- Solid understanding of MEP systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire-fighting) and their contract/costing implications in a construction or infrastructure context.
- Proven procurement experience: issuing tenders, evaluating bids, negotiating contracts, managing vendor/subcontractor relationships.
- Strong commercial awareness: cost control, forecasting, value engineering, risk management.
- Proficiency in software tools: MS Excel (advanced), cost estimating software, ERP/project cost control systems.
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively across multi-discipline teams and with suppliers/vendors.
- Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, good at problem-solving.
- Professional working level of English; knowledge of Arabic is a plus but not mandatory.
- Willingness to visit project site(s) in Qatar as required, and to work flexible hours to meet project demands.
