An MEP Site Engineer is responsible for overseeing the on-site installation, testing, and commissioning of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, ensuring they comply with design specifications, safety standards, and building codes. This role requires a strong technical background and practical experience across all three disciplines
- Installation Supervision: Direct and monitor the installation of all HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems by subcontractors, ensuring work is carried out correctly according to approved drawings and plans.
- Quality Control & Assurance: Conduct regular site inspections to verify that installations meet project specifications, quality standards, and local/international building codes and regulations (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, local authority rules).
- Coordination and Problem-Solving: Act as the primary liaison for MEP services on-site, coordinating with architects, structural engineers, project managers, and other contractors to resolve design conflicts and technical issues as they arise.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain detailed site reports, progress logs, and "as-built" information on field drawings. Manage and review material submittals, shop drawings, and operation & maintenance (O&M) manuals.
- Testing and Commissioning: Supervise and assist in the testing and commissioning of MEP systems to ensure they function as intended before project handover to the client.
- Health and Safety: Promote and enforce site-specific health and safety policies and regulations related to MEP work, such as electrical safety and working in confined spaces.
- Cost and Schedule Management: Monitor project progress regarding schedule and budget, identify potential variations in scope, and help prepare cost estimates for change orders.
- Required Experience and Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering is a standard requirement.
- Professional Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in MEP design, coordination, and site supervision, preferably within building construction projects.
- Technical Expertise (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical):
- HVAC: In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, including chiller units, VRF systems, package units, load calculations, ducting, and piping systems.
- Plumbing: Expertise in water supply (hot/cold), drainage, sanitary systems, fire suppression, and relevant health/safety standards.
- Electrical: Knowledge of power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, standby power, and earthing/lightning protection systems.
- Software Proficiency: Strong knowledge of MEP software such as AutoCAD and Revit MEP for design review and coordination. Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) processes is often a plus.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Expertise in relevant local and international building codes, energy standards, and safety regulations.
- Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills are essential for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
