About the role

This position is anchored within the MES area of Manufacturing IT, specializing in ABB 800xA Batch Manager solutions for our customers’ pharmaceutical production facilities. As an MES Specialist, you will play a key role in designing and configuring batch management systems that enable compliant, efficient, and scalable manufacturing processes.

You will work closely with process engineers, automation specialists, and MES experts to:


  • Develop and maintain master batch records and batch control strategies using ABB 800xA Batch Management.
  • Support integration with related systems (e.g., PAS-X MES, historians, and production equipment).
  • Ensure alignment with ISA-88 standards, GMP requirements, and customers’ target architecture.
  • Contribute to greenfield and optimization projects, primarily in Kalundborg, while preparing for future global initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement by applying best practices and supporting the development of standardized engineering models.
This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the world’s most advanced API manufacturing facilities, combining technical expertise with collaboration across disciplines to deliver predictable, high-quality project execution.

How you might spend your days
As an MES Specialist, you’ll be:
  • Gathering technical requirements through workshops, work sessions, interviews, and technical analysis.
  • Designing, developing, and deploying workflows/recipes in compliance with site business processes and technical standards.
  • Acting as a recipe engineer for integration and synchronization between MES and DCS systems, focusing on batch management recipes.
  • Ensuring effective and seamless flow of batch data between MES (e.g., PAS-X, Opcenter, Syncade) and DCS systems (e.g., 800xA, DeltaV).
  • Supporting commissioning and verification of master recipes in manufacturing system environments.

What you bring to the role
In all positions, there are some things that are preferred, and others, a bonus. If you do not meet all the qualifications listed below, you are welcome to offer alternative experience that you think would be valuable in this role:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering, or related life science engineering.
  • 5-10 years of recipe development experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences industries using ABB 800xA Batch Management or DeltaV.
  • Knowledge and application of cGMP manufacturing and regulatory requirements for biologics/pharmaceuticals.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/ISA-88 (process control) standards.
