MESH Counselor (Mental, Emotional, Social Health)
Full-Time | Seasonal (7 Weeks)
$20.00 per hour

The Town of Sandown Recreation Department is seeking a qualified and compassionate MESH Counselor (Mental, Emotional, Social Health) to join our summer camp team. This position supports campers who benefit from additional emotional, behavioral, social, or communication support to ensure a safe and inclusive camp experience.
This is a full-time, seasonal position for the duration of our 7-week summer camp program.
Position Summary
The MESH Counselor provides individualized and small-group support to campers with diverse needs. Campers may require assistance with activity transitions, emotional regulation, social interaction, communication (including non-verbal communication), or behavioral support.
The MESH Counselor works closely with camp counselors, leadership staff, and families to implement strategies that promote inclusion, engagement, and success throughout the camp day.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provide one-on-one and small group support to assigned campers
Assist campers with transitions between activities and daily routines
Support positive behavior strategies and emotional regulation
Adapt activities to promote full participation
Collaborate with camp staff to implement individualized support approaches
Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding camper progress and concerns
Maintain accurate documentation as required
Uphold all safety policies and procedures
Foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive camp environment
Qualifications
Experience working with children with disabilities, developmental differences, or diverse behavioral needs required
Background in Special Education, Education, Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred
Experience in behavioral support, de-escalation, or social-emotional programming strongly preferred
Ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in dynamic environments
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Must be able to pass required background checks
Physical Requirements
Ability to actively participate in camp activities (indoors and outdoors)
Ability to stand, walk, and engage with children throughout the camp day
Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
Schedule & Compensation
Full-time seasonal position
June 22 – August 7
Monday–Friday (camp hours as scheduled)
$20.00 per hour
