Position Overview:

We are seeking a Metals Analyst to join our analytical team in Billings, Montana. This is an entry-level position, ideal for individuals looking to build a career in environmental science. The Metals Analyst will be responsible for preparing and analyzing samples in accordance with established laboratory QA/QC protocols. This role offers opportunities to cross-train in other areas of the lab and to advance into operating and maintaining more complex instrumentation such as ICP and ICP-MS systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and analyze environmental samples (water, soil, waste, air) for metal content
• Perform digestion of samples using EPA-approved methods (e.g., EPA 200.2 3010A)
• Monitor quality control and ensure compliance with lab procedures and accreditation requirements
• Accurately document and report data using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
• Work closely with senior analysts and lab supervisors to ensure turnaround times are met
• Participate in routine maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation
• Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area
• Assist with other tasks in the Metals department as needed

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field (or equivalent laboratory experience)
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate results
• Ability to follow written procedures and work independently
• Basic knowledge of analytical instrumentation preferred, but not required
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite, LIMS a plus)
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
