IIR’s candidate for an Energy Meteorologist Analyst Role, would be responsible for integrating accurate, reliable, trusted weather data & forecasts with IIR research, analytics, news, and other likes deliverables, as well as stand-alone services to enhance and perfect IIR’ s offerings.

Continuously manage and relate weather into energy operations, and create views and products to commercialize.

Perform tasks: wind/solar potential, grid supply/demand, and asset impacts across all sectors, supporting energy trading, and operators in the supply chain.

Work includes assessing risks for renewables and traditional energy sources, and other asset classes affected by weather.

Requires strong meteorology, data analysis, and communication skills to translate complex weather data into actionable energy market insights.

Responsibilities

  • Forecasting: Prepare short-to-long term forecasts for wind, solar, temperature, and other variables impacting energy supply/demand.
  • Load & Renewable Forecasting: Develop weather-informed forecasts for electricity demand and renewable (wind/solar) generation to support dispatch planning and market operations
  • Data Analysis: Analyze meteorological models, satellite data, and ground observations using tools like Python.
  • Resource Assessment: Evaluate optimal locations for wind/solar farms and turbine placement.
  • Trading Support: Provide real-time forecasts and risk assessments to energy trading desks.
  • Modeling: Develop tools to improve forecasting, integrate meteorological data into energy models, support analytics teams and risk analysis.
  • Communication: Translate complex weather science into clear reports and verbal briefings for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Tool & Model Development:
  • Operations: Monitor renewable asset performance, assess production losses, and ensure grid stability. Provide real-time updates

Essential Skills

  • Meteorology: Deep understanding of atmospheric science, weather patterns, and climate.
  • Data Science: Proficiency in data analysis, statistics, and programming (Python).
  • Energy Markets: Knowledge of power markets (ERCOT, PJM) and renewable energy technologies (wind/solar).
  • Communication: Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Technical Tools: Experience with modeling platforms, GIS, and remote sensing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience with weather data, forecasting models, and statistical tools.
  • Programming/analysis skills (Python, R, MATLAB) preferred
  • Understanding of energy markets, load forecasting, or renewable generation is highly value
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Knowledge of energy policies, market trends, and sustainability practices is beneficial

Skills: Strong technical skills which includes the use of Microsoft Office Suite, web browsers, and other specialized software. Prior work experience in database entry work is preferred.
